Clarifications from the Best Stories of Prophets to Strengthen Hearts Therewith
In the name of Allaah the Most Gracious the Most Merciful. May Allaah's prayers of forgiveness and peace be upon all the messengers sent by Divine Books, starting from Noah Allaah's messenger of inflexible purpose till the seal of Allaah's messengers, Mohammed the illiterate prophet. May Allaah's prayers of forgiveness and peace be upon him and his family
O (my) supporters, I have promised you to recite upon you whichever Allaah wills of stories of some of the prophets and not all of them for a while
.
Anyway, let me finish the story of Allaah's prophet Lut who used to go to gain knowledge from prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), so that he continues to carry Allaah's message to Ibrahim, to his (Ibrahim's) people who are also the people of Lut. Thus, Allaah made Lut a messenger and made Ibrahim in the same position as Jibril (Archangel Gabriel) when He assigns him (Jibril) the duty of revealing a message to whom Allaah chose to be a messenger for people
.
Given that Allaah spoke directly to Ibrahim, he used to transmit the message to Lut, the messenger of Allaah. Ibrahim became tantamount to Jibril, the teacher of messengers. And Lut became like the messengers who teach people the Words of Allaah the Lord of the worlds, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted
:
{كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ﴿١٦٠﴾ إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ﴿١٦١﴾ إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ ﴿١٦٢﴾ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ﴿١٦٣﴾ وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿١٦٤﴾ أَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿١٦٥﴾ وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَاجِكُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ ﴿١٦٦﴾ قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ ﴿١٦٧﴾ }
(Surah: al-Shu’araa’ —Chapter:26 —Verses: 160-167)
Accordingly, the people of Lut held a meeting and decided to drive Lut out, and the purified ones among his household, as they did to messenger Ibrahim and his wife, may Allaah's prayers of forgiveness and peace be upon them. However, they overruled their decision and agreed to let him stay in their town on the condition of neither calling them to worship Allaah alone nor calling or speaking to anyone. Lut thereby called upon Allaah to bring about their punishment, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted
:
{وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الْفَاحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٢٨﴾ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ السَّبِيلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِي نَادِيكُمُ الْمُنكَرَ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿٢٩﴾ قَالَ رَبِّ انصُرْنِي عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْمُفْسِدِينَ ﴿٣٠﴾ }
(Al-Ankabut —Chapter:29 —Verses:28-30)
Following this, Allaah sent to Lut the 3 angel messengers with tidings of the destruction of his people after they prevented him from calling people to the path of Allaah. That is why they used the agreement as a pretext when they asked of him his guests for an ill purpose and said: “We had an agreement, after resolving upon expelling you and the chaste ones among your household, to allow you to stay provided that you refrain from calling people to Allaah, talking to us or anyone else, or receiving anyone at your home”. That is why Allaah the Exalted Said
{وَجَاءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ ﴿٦٧﴾ قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ضَيْفِي فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ ﴿٦٨﴾ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ ﴿٦٩﴾ قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٧٠﴾ }
(Al-Hijr —Chapter:15 —Verses: 68-70)
Lut did not know that his guests were angels who came to inform him that his prayers against his people have been accepted, and Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{وَلَمَّا جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا إِنَّا مُهْلِكُو أَهْلِ هَٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ ۖ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ ﴿٣١﴾ قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا ۚ قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا ۖ لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ ﴿٣٢﴾ وَلَمَّا أَن جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ ۖ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ ﴿٣٣﴾ }
(Al-Ankabut —Chapter:29 —Verses:31-33)
The same thing happened with Noah, the messenger of Allaah. After calling his people to the way of Allaah for fifty years short of a thousand, Allaah hit them during these years with drought and severe famine in years of no rain. Noah and those who followed him were affected by drought, but the greatest damage was incurred by the owners of sheep, camels and horses, and donkeys among his people. He and his followers were poor and owned a few cattle. Being destitute they were scorned by their people. Prophet Noah PBUH said: “Call upon Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Yauq, or Nasr (idols names) to pour down rain if you were truthful concerning invoking them other than Allaah, otherwise ask forgiveness of your Lord: He is ever forgiving, He will send rain to you in abundance, supply you with wealth and children, and give you gardens as well as rivers. What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allaah [due] grandeur?”. But they acted in arrogance and said that the reason behind the cessation of rain is the worship of Allaah, with no partners, by Noah and his followers and that before Noah started calling them to worship Allaah rain did not stop to fall upon them for years. So he and his followers had to either desist from worshipping Allaah alone or be stoned. Noah replied: “You and your master have to come to an agreement concerning this decision of yours, then pass your sentence on me”. Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكُم مَّقَامِي وَتَذْكِيرِي بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَعَلَى اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ فَأَجْمِعُوا أَمْرَكُمْ وَشُرَكَاءَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنْ أَمْرُكُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ غُمَّةً ثُمَّ اقْضُوا إِلَيَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ ﴿٧١﴾ }
(Yunus — Chapter:10 —Verse: 71)
Noah's people gathered at their master whose wealth and children added nothing to him but loss and came to one unified conclusion
:
{قَالُوا يَا نُوحُ قَدْ جَادَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَالَنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَا إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿٣٢﴾ }
(Surah: Hûd —Chapter:11 —Verse: 32)
And Allaah the Exalted Said
:
(Surah: al-Shu’araa’ —Chapter:26 —Verses:116-119)
Allaah also said
:
(Surah: al-Mu’minun—Chapter:23 —Verse:28)
Let us tackle the story of Yusuf (Joseph) in his first imprisonment in the palace of the Mighty Governor of Egypt (Aziz Misr). He was imprisoned according to a decision by the wife of the Mighty Governor of Egypt who did not demur at his wife's decision thinking it must be her reaction against Yusuf's seduction, so she imprisoned him in the private prison in the same palace of the Mighty Governor of Egypt. Then, her sister-in-law said: “O my beloved husband, rectify the situation of your sister for she is your honor. I heard she imprisoned her slave boy, claiming he seduced her. I also heard that his shirt was torn and she is using it as a pretext to say she did it to defend herself. She imprisoned him with his torn shirt, as evidence of her innocence, in the palace of the Mighty Governor of Egypt. So fix the situation before our reputation is tarnished publicly”. Her husband replied: “Is his shirt torn from the front or the back?” She said: “I do not know”, then her wise and just husband said: “If it be that his shirt is torn from the front, then her tale is true and he is a liar because she was defending herself. However, if it is torn at the back, then she is lying and he is telling the truth because he would be turning away from her but she followed him and grabbed his shirt at the back from his neck, thus it was torn from behind. I shall go to check Yusuf and his shirt will either prove him guilty or innocent”. And Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{وَاسْتَبَقَا الْبَابَ وَقَدَّتْ قَمِيصَهُ مِن دُبُرٍ وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ ۚ قَالَتْ مَا جَزَاءُ مَنْ أَرَادَ بِأَهْلِكَ سُوءًا إِلَّا أَن يُسْجَنَ أَوْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ ﴿٢٥﴾ قَالَ هِيَ رَاوَدَتْنِي عَن نَّفْسِي ۚ وَشَهِدَ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا إِن كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن قُبُلٍ فَصَدَقَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ ﴿٢٦﴾ وَإِن كَانَ قَمِيصُهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ فَكَذَبَتْ وَهُوَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ ﴿٢٧﴾ فَلَمَّا رَأَىٰ قَمِيصَهُ قُدَّ مِن دُبُرٍ قَالَ إِنَّهُ مِن كَيْدِكُنَّ ۖ إِنَّ كَيْدَكُنَّ عَظِيمٌ ﴿٢٨﴾ يُوسُفُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَٰذَا ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرِي لِذَنبِكِ ۖ إِنَّكِ كُنتِ مِنَ الْخَاطِئِينَ ﴿٢٩﴾ }
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verses: 25-29)
He took Yusuf out of the prison in the palace of the Mighty Governor Egypt to Yusuf's private suite where he used to reside, and wanted to close the subject, and told the minister's servants maids in the palace about the proof of Yusuf''s innocence and that it turned out that she was the one seduced him. The news spread among the wives of the ministers of Egypt, and they scorned her, as how would she seduce her servant while she was the wife of the Mighty Governor of Egypt, but they had not seen Yusuf before. She heard of their malicious talk against her but she is as intelligent as her brother, so she invited the women and prepared for each of them a reclining cushion on the left and brought them fruits, and gave each one a knife. It seems like they should wait for the host's permission to start eating, so she told them: “Mention the name of Allaah and eat the fruits”. She knows that they will hold the fruit in their left hand that is resting on the cushion while the sharp knives are in their right hand. It seems like the cushion was high so they rested the elbows of their left hands on the cushion, holding the fruits, and the sharp knives were in their right hands. When she permitted them to eat, she ordered Yusuf to come out, walk in the middle, and greet them so that they look at him. Yusuf carried out the order and told them: “May the peace of Allaah be upon you” during cutting the fruits. When they looked at him they were astounded and relaxed, and because the left hand is higher than the right hand and because of the weight of the right hand, the knife retracted automatically without their noticing and cut the fruits until it reached the palm of the left hand. As a result, they wounded their hands. The Prime Minister's wife smiled, laughing at what happened to the wives of members of the Council of Ministers, and stated: “That is the one about whom you blamed me. And if he will not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will be of those debased." She said so to gloat at them because she will have Yusuf but they will not get him like her. Then she gave each one a bandage for their hands to stop the blood from the wound in their left palm, what an intelligent woman! This action of hers will make each woman return to her husband with a banded hand, then each minister will ask his wife what caused the wound. And they will say: “I am not the only wounded, all the wives of the members of the Council of Ministers cut off their hands because of what they saw of Yusuf’s angelic beauty and Great God! He cannot be mortal! He must be a precious angel”. Consequently, all the members of the Council of Ministers will witness that the wife of every one of them fell into the temptation of the beauty of Yusuf, and each one wants him to bed her even for one time regardless of the price, including the first one who fell in love with him, the wife of the Prime Minister, the Mighty Governor of Egypt.
Then an emergent secret meeting was held for all members of the cabinet, in the palace of the prime minister, the husband of the first woman who fell in love with Yusuf, because of the signs they saw represented in the wounds of their wives owing to their infatuation with the beauty of Yusuf. The ministers unanimously agreed to throw him in prison unjustly, knowing that he was wronged. And Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{ثُمَّ بَدَا لَهُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا رَأَوُا الْآيَاتِ لَيَسْجُنُنَّهُ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ ﴿٣٥﴾ }
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 35)
But the king of Egypt did not know what happened, and Allaah wanted to prove Yusuf''s innocence, so the fate of the King's vision came, and Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{وَقَالَ الْمَلِكُ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ سَبْعَ بَقَرَاتٍ سِمَانٍ يَأْكُلُهُنَّ سَبْعٌ عِجَافٌ وَسَبْعَ سُنبُلَاتٍ خُضْرٍ وَأُخَرَ يَابِسَاتٍ ۖ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمَلَأُ أَفْتُونِي فِي رُؤْيَايَ إِن كُنتُمْ لِلرُّؤْيَا تَعْبُرُونَ ﴿٤٣﴾ }
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 43)
And because of the vision of the servants they went with Yusuf to the prison designated for the servants of the state’s seniors, to keep the governmental secrets of state ministers and the King’s servants, and not to the general central prison for prisoners from the public. To explain, there was a problem in the King's palace, where there were three of his cooking servants. A problem occurred between the two, the other one was killed, and the third was innocent, but the murderer exonerated himself and accused the innocent of stabbing the murdered with a knife. Then, the two servants of the King were thrown alongside Yusuf in the prison, of the servants in charge, to be interrogated. Thus, the two servants were destined to see the visions. Allaah the Exalted Said
:
{وَدَخَلَ مَعَهُ السِّجْنَ فَتَيَانِ ۖ قَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَعْصِرُ خَمْرًا ۖ وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ إِنِّي أَرَانِي أَحْمِلُ فَوْقَ رَأْسِي خُبْزًا تَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِنْهُ ۖ نَبِّئْنَا بِتَأْوِيلِهِ ۖ إِنَّا نَرَاكَ مِنَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ ﴿٣٦﴾ }
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 36)
Then Yusuf replied
:
{يَا صَاحِبَيِ السِّجْنِ أَمَّا أَحَدُكُمَا فَيَسْقِي رَبَّهُ خَمْرًا ۖ وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَيُصْلَبُ فَتَأْكُلُ الطَّيْرُ مِن رَّأْسِهِ ۚ قُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ الَّذِي فِيهِ تَسْتَفْتِيَانِ ﴿٤١﴾ }
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 41)
Then came the destined vision of the King by which Allaah will let Yusuf out of prison and empowers him in the land. The vision was interpreted and he asked for Yusuf to be employed to interpret the visions of the King. However, Yusuf refused to be discharged from the prison, and Allaah the Exalted Said
:
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 50)
Here the king’s servant told the king what he heard from Yusuf and the story of the wives of the ministers, including the wife of the Prime Minister, the Mighty Governor of Egypt. Consequently, the king ordered the attendance of the prime minister, his wife, and all the members of the cabinet and their wives, then he said
:
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 51-52)
The Prime Minister's wife means by saying
:
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 52)
To refer to her husband who is attending among the other ministers who were called and to let him know that she did not cheat on him with anyone when he was absent, for Allaah does not guide the plan of betrayers. Then, she said
:
(Yusuf —Chapter:12 —Verse: 53-57)
Because the prime minister (her husband) is present among the ministers, listening to what she has to say so that he knows that she is not used to betraying him in his absence since he was one of those who were brought to the royal edifice in front of the just king. After that, the King empowered Yusuf and made him the prime minister over all of them
.
Peace be upon the messengers and all praise is due to Allaah Lord of the worlds
